What's Mentoring All About?

2.1 Overview

What is a Mentoring relationship all about?

  • It's a partnership between you (the Mentee) and someone older (the Mentor).
  • It focuses on you and your needs.
  • It's a hotline, advice column, and sounding board.
  • It helps you identify your goals.
  • It encourages you to reach those goals.
  • It helps to show the many possibilities open to you.

Mentoring is a special kind of caring, supportive relationship between two people that is based on trust and respect. It is a relationship with one special person, your Mentor, who wants to share his or her knowledge and experience with you. It is a relationship where you and your needs are the focus.

By choosing to become a Mentee you've already made a special commitment to yourself and to your Mentor to define and reach your goals based on your vision of the future. Wherever you want to go, you and your Mentor will help to get you there!
