When And How to Say Goodbye

7.1 Overview

Some mentoring relationships do come to an end, often at the end of an agreed upon time. However, many Mentors and Mentees choose to stay in touch for years after their formal interaction ends.

The two main reasons for a mentoring relationship formally ending are

  • the Mentor or Mentee chooses to end the relationship.
  • the goals of the mentorship are achieved and the time commitment has been honored.

In this lesson, you will learn

  • when to say goodbye.
  • how to end "on time and on purpose".
  • how to deal with a relationship that ends early.
